Youth Mela Empowers Migrants through Culture, Unity, and Skill Development

Don Bosco Kavarapettai hosted the Migrant Youth Mela 2024, a vibrant gathering to celebrate and empower over 2,100 migrant youth. Organized by Don Bosco Migrant Services under the leadership of Fr. Simolin, Director of Don Bosco Migrant Services, Chennai Province, the event brought together migrants on October 13, 2024. The Mela emphasized cultural unity, skill development, and access to essential support services for the migrant community, particularly its younger members.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail from the State Planning Commission, inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp, symbolizing hope and a brighter future for migrant youth. The Mela was a vibrant showcase of the cultural richness of migrant communities, featuring a diverse range of traditional attire displays and performances, including a lively celebration of Assam’s Karam Festival. Migrants, dressed in colourful sarees and regional garments, proudly represented their heritage.

The event also included skill development workshops, which provided participants with valuable insights into education, employment, and social services. Networking booths, coordinated by Don Bosco staff and volunteers, offered legal aid, healthcare, and job opportunities. These resources were designed to address the unique challenges faced by migrant youth, empowering them for better integration into society.

The Mela concluded with a community feast, promoting unity and strengthening bonds among participants. The overwhelming turnout and active engagement, a testament to the event's success, reflected the commitment of Don Bosco Migrant Services to uplifting migrant youth.
