World Communication Convention: Shaping Tomorrow Congress starts in UPS Rome
The Vice Chancellor of Salesian University Rome Prof. Andrea Bozzolo, welcomed participants of Communications Congress ‘Shaping Tomorrow 2024” organised by Salesian Congregation’s Department of Social Communications, ANS and Salesian University Rome. The congress is being held in Paul VIth Hall of Salesian University from 1st to 7th August 2024.
Rector Major of the Salesians Cardinal Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime opened ‘Shaping Tomorrow’ international Communication Congress for delegates of Social Communications from some 90 provinces spread out in 134 countries. In his opening address, Cardinal Artime insisted “We need to accompany young people with our life testimony as well as a real encounter with God.” The Cardinal reminded the audience on the importance of “education and formation in the culture of the click, and stressed the need for human qualities in the use of artificial intelligence and technology.
The keynote speaker of the congress, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Associate Professor at Salesian University Father Fabio Pasqualetti, spoke on “Epochal Changes: Digital Culture and Artificial Intelligence.” Quoting Pope Francis, Fr Pasqualetti reminded the purpose of communication to be at the service of human encounter.
He further explained the theme in today’s context of young people to be different from the times of Don Bosco, as well as in the past 30 years. Speaking of Salesian context of Social communications, Fr Pasqualetti recalled the theme of last General chapter; ‘What kind of Salesian for Today’ in the context of the new language of communication and the difficulties on communications today between family, society and church.
