On Thursday, GROW BOSCO, a tree plantation campaign of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, India, was initiated by the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Father Ángel  ernandez Artime. On the occasion of the Team Visit 2023 to the South Asia Region, the Rector Major and the General Councillors, along with the children who accompanied them, went on a plantation spree in the premises of the Provincial House in Hyderabad.

The significance of this campaign, titled GROW BOSCO, is rooted in the word Bosco, which in Italian means the woods. The campaign GROW BOSCO means to grow a forest. The campaign intends to increase the green cover by planting trees with the children, youth, women’s groups, and communities, motivating them to create a green future for themselves. It is the initiative of the Don Bosco LIFE programme under the able guidance of Father Noel Maddhichetty in collaboration with Bosco Seva Kendra, the Development Office of Salesian Province of Hyderabad, to create awareness and promote the cause of the “Laudato Si”, to save and sustain the creation as told by Pope Francis.

The initial phase of the campaign seeks to plant 10,000 trees. GROW BOSCO campaign envisages planting 100,000 trees total in the coming years.

GROW BOSCO campaign with women's groups in the Province of Hyderabad seeks to bring economic sustainability to their families by generating income with fruit-bearing trees. "With an ambitious target of 100,000 trees, we hope to create a sustainable future, reduce the carbon footprint and create a healthy environment", said Father Noel.
