Bangalore: St. Antony`s Church, TC Palya, Bangalore witnessed an ocean of people of all walks of life to pay their last respects to their beloved dear departed, Father Thomas Myladoor and Father Arulappa. The funeral mass commenced at 3.00 pm on 20 July 2015 presided by Archbishop Bernard Moras. Father Joyce, the provincial of Bangalore and over 200 priests concelebrated the mass. After the mass at the parish church, the mortal remains were taken to the Kristu Jyoti College cemetery for the final prayers and burial.

Twenty two Salesians were ordained deacons by Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore at St. Antony`s Church at TC Palya, near Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore on 19 March. The deacons hail from 8 Salesian Provinces of India. Presently, they are pursuing their theological studies at Kristu Jyoti College. There were in fact 38 of them ordained all together, of whom 8 were Piarists, 3 Sacred Hearts, (MSSCC) 4 Franciscans (OFM), and 1 Fransiscan Friar (TOR).

. Shillong: The 19th General Body Meeting of the Indian Catechetical Association (ICA) was held at Bethel Prayer Centre, Shillong, 11-13 February 2015. The 76 participants consisting of priests, religious and laity from across the country, among whom were a large number of Salesian Family members, deliberated on ``Challenges and Concerns of Family Catechesis``.

The 27th plenary assembly of Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) honoured a five member team, including three members of the Salesian Family, on 3 February 2015 in Bangalore, for their contribution to the drawing up of the Catechetical Directory of India.

``The song may be over...the melody you have created is immortal.`` These were the words of Sr. Margaret, the CRI President of Bangalore for Fr. Paul Puthanangady on the day of his funeral. After a year of his death, Fr. Paul was remembered by his confreres, relatives and students at Kristu Jyoti College on 14 November 2014. The day was marked by a requiem mass celebrated by Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong. The mass was attended by the 300 students of Kristu Jyoti College, about 30 relatives of Fr. Puthanangady and the neighbouring communities and religious.

The fifth Edition of DBIFF (Don Bosco International Film Festival) organised by Don Bosco Image, Kochi, in collaboration with ishare programme will begin on 22 November and conclude on 23 November with the award ceremony. DBIFF brings together cinema enthusiasts, filmmakers and artists to discover the best in short films across the country. Over 100 short films will be screened in Full HD quality on the festival days. The contestants are basically children and youth from all over India.

Sumati makes BOSCO (Bangalore Oniyavara Seva COota) proud just Malala made the whole world proud winning the Nobel Prize for Peace. Sumati was contacted by BOSCO six months ago from the city railway platform. Now she is all set to change her destiny. She is the pride of BOSCO as she is the first child to be employed with a decent salary from the newly inaugurated girls rehabilitation centre BOSCO Vatsalyabahvan in Bangalore.

BOSCO (Bangalore Oniyavara Seva COota) celebrated the 3rd International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October with the International theme ``Empowering the adolescent girls and ending the cycle of violence`` with a rally organised by BOSCO inmates and staff through the streets of the City of Bangalore.

Don Bosco is in news in Karnataka these days for conscientising the society on Child Labour Issues. Media highlighted Don Bosco`s contribution in several parts of the state of Karnataka. On 12 June, World Day against Child Labour, Don Bosco organized elaborate awareness and action campaigns against child labour throughout the State of Karnataka. Public meetings and rallies involving Government Departments, NGOs, School Students, and the public in large numbers were held in Bangalore, Chitradurga, Davangere, Deodurga (Raichur Dt), and Hospet (Bellary Dt). Every speaker used the occasion to denounce child labour and declare commitment to root out child labour from Karnataka. The functions were presided over by leaders of Child Right Clubs in the districts.

Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, is back to its regular activities with the inauguration of the academic year 2014-15 on 7 June 2014. The inauguration of the academic year 2014 began with celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Rev. Dr. Thomas Anchukandom, the Salesian provincial of the province of Bangalore, presided over the Holy Eucharist. All the teaching staff of Kristu Jyoti College and superiors of the clerical congregations concelebrated in the Holy Eucharist. All students with their superiors were also present for the Eucharist.

A State Level Consultation on Missing Children and Track Child System was organized by Kerala State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights in the State Capital of Kerala, Trivandrum, on 22 May 2014. Fr. Philip Parakatt SDB, Member of Kerala State Child Rights Commission, was the key Organizer of the Consultation. Fr. Philip belongs to the Salesian Province of Bangalore. He was involved in the ministry towards young at risk for the past two decades. The forum consisted of ministers, bureaucrats, Police Officers and activists in the field.

Don Bosco IMAGE is once again being recognized at the oldest annual International Catholic Film and Multimedia Festival in Poland. The films got the recognition out of 160 movies, from 23 countries among the Short-Film category. The films selected from Don Bosco IMAGE are Beyond (Short Film 15 min,) and Feliz Navidad (Short Film 27 min,). This 29th International Catholic Film and Multimedia Festival will be held at Niepokalanow from 23 to 25 May 2014.

BREADS (Bangalore Rural. Educational and Development Society), a social project of the Salesians of Bangalore Province, has just released a Kannada CD that contained songs on Child-Rights. Minchu, the title of the CD, contains ten Kannada songs related to children and their rights. Four of the composers are Salesians from the province of Bangalore: Fr. Regi, Fr. Jesudas, Fr. Jude Anand, and Fr. Varghese CP.

In collaboration with the social Justice Department and the Educational Department, Trivandrum Don Bosco Veedu Society is reaching out to 38 lakhs of School children in Kerala with the CHILDLINE message. As per the statistics of last six months available with CHILDLINE in Kerala, there have been over 2000 children saved from different abusive situations across Kerala. Every month over hundred children undergo some form of abuse.
