Kristu Jyoti College begins the academic year with a spiritual awakening

Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, is back to its regular activities with the inauguration of the academic year 2014-15 on 7 June 2014. The inauguration of the academic year 2014 began with celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Rev. Dr. Thomas Anchukandom, the Salesian provincial of the province of Bangalore, presided over the Holy Eucharist. All the teaching staff of Kristu Jyoti College and superiors of the clerical congregations concelebrated in the Holy Eucharist. All students with their superiors were also present for the Eucharist.
During the homily Fr. Anchukandom exhorted the participants to be the agents of the Spirit to transform the world from good to better place through their ministries. The study of theology should enhance the students of theology to interiorize the lessons to equip them better for their priestly ministry. After the Holy Mass, the scholastic year 2014-15 of Kristu Jyoti College was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Oswald Crasta OCD, the dean of Pushpashrama College of Philosophy and Religion, Mysore. In his keynote address, Dr. Crasta informed the students of theology that there are three kinds of spiritual ailments faced by the modern spiritual life. He enumerated the three spiritual ailments, such as existential tourism, incomprehensible understanding of the theological concepts and failing to explain and living up to the expectation of the Church with regard to religious life. In the beginning of the academic year each student must have a definite aim to know God and to explain God to others in a more convincing way, the students must put their heart and soul to personalize their studies, and they have to commit themselves to live a faithful religious life, as remedies to spiritual ailments, he said to the students. Rev. Dr. Jose Kuttianimattathil, Rector of Kristu Jyothi College, and Rev. Dr. Anton Padinjarathala, Rector of Viswadeep, inspired the audience with their messages. Rev. Dr. Joy Pulikan, Registrar of College, introduced the chief guest to the audience. Rev. Dr. Jude Pooppana, Principal of the College, welcomed the guests and all the participants of the gathering and presented the annual report of the College. Deacon Joby Kanimattathil extended grateful thanks to all. There are 293 students enrolled for different courses in KJC for this academic year. In theology section there are 48 in the first year, 44 in the second year, 70 in the third year and 17 in the fourth year. In the Philosophy section there are 53 students among them 24 are in the first year and 29 are in the second year. In the section of Masters in theology there are 29 students and for the Diploma course there are 31 students. The two new books ``Basics in Spiritual Direction`` compiled and edited by Rev. Dr. Jose Kuttianimattathil and ``A Short History of the Church in the Ancient Period`` by Fr. Mahimai Dass have been published by the Kristu Jyothi Publication on the occasion of the inauguration of the academic year 2014 - 15.
