In a ceremony filled with solemnity and grace, the Archbishop of Bangalore, Most Rev. Bp. Peter Machado, ordained 33 acolytes from Kristu Jyoti College as deacons at the revered Shrine of St. Antony, T C Palya, Bangalore, on March 18th.

The ordination marked a significant milestone for Kristu Jyoti College, as 27 Salesians, 3 Passionists, 2 TOR Franciscans, and 1 OSB Sylvestrian were vested with the responsibilities of the diaconate.  The ceremony commenced with a stately procession, led by the candidates bearing sacred vestments, accompanied by their parents and the clergy. Fr. Bosco Ponthokkan, the Rector of KJC, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, setting the tone for the spiritual proceedings.

During his introduction, Archbishop Peter Machado invoked blessings upon the soon-to-be deacons, urging them to become shining beacons of Christ’s light in the world. In his sermon, he emphasized the essence of compassion and service, underscoring the deacons' pivotal role in serving the people of God, especially the marginalized and impoverished.

Following the Archbishop's guidance, the candidates solemnly pledged celibacy and obedience to their superiors, a commitment witnessed by the congregation. The atmosphere reverberated with prayer as the Litany of Saints ensued, with the candidates prostrating before the altar, seeking divine intercession for their journey ahead.

With the laying on of hands and the prayer of Consecration by Archbishop Peter Machado, the candidates were ordained to the diaconate, marking the pinnacle of the ceremony. Adorned in liturgical vestments symbolizing their newfound roles, the deacons received the Book of the Gospels from His Lordship, signifying their duty to spread the Word of God.

As the holy Eucharist drew to a close, Dn. Arokia Berdouil Raj expressed gratitude on behalf of the newly ordained deacons, encapsulating the collective sentiment of the assembly.

The ordination ceremony not only symbolized a personal milestone for the 33 deacons but also stood as a testament to the enduring commitment of Kristu Jyoti College and the wider community to the service of God and humanity.

The event drew a distinguished gathering, including Fr. Jose Thomas Koyickal, the Salesian Provincial of Bangalore, and Msgr. C. Francis, the vicar General of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Fr. Don Bosco Lourdusamy, the Salesian Provincial of Chennai, Fr. Agilan Satprasadam, the Salesian Provincial of Trichy, Fr.
