Fr. Paul Puthanangady: The song ceases; the melody lingers after 365 days!

``The song may be over...the melody you have created is immortal.`` These were the words of Sr. Margaret, the CRI President of Bangalore for Fr. Paul Puthanangady on the day of his funeral. After a year of his death, Fr. Paul was remembered by his confreres, relatives and students at Kristu Jyoti College on 14 November 2014. The day was marked by a requiem mass celebrated by Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong. The mass was attended by the 300 students of Kristu Jyoti College, about 30 relatives of Fr. Puthanangady and the neighbouring communities and religious.
The day was graced by the presence of two prominent liturgists of Indian Church, namely, Archbishop Dominic Jala and Fr. Antony Nariculam, the rector of Alwaye Seminary. In his sermon Arch Bishop Jala pointed out certain outstanding qualities that he himself found and experienced it living with Fr. Puthanangady and being associated with him in the liturgical renewal in India. He stated that Fr. Puthanangady was a very dedicated and faithful son of the church and ardent disciple of Christ in all that he did, said, and taught. ``He was never ever discouraged or gave-up his spirit and enthusiasm in communicating Christ through the liturgical renewal and animations to the inculturate Christ in India. Even when he was suffering with his illness, till the end of his life he wanted to teach and bring renewal In the liturgical worship,`` reminisced Bp. Jala. After the mass, there was a celebration of the office of the dead at his tomb, presided by Fr. Jose Matthew, the rector of Kristu Jyoti College. ``Disciple and Prophet of the Church in Inda,`` a booklet containing a brief life of Fr. Puthanangady was released on the day. The booklet was written by Fr. Jose Matthew. ``We still feel that Fr. Paul is with us, within the campus of Kristu Jyoti College. Fr. Paul and Salesians are part of our family,`` said Mr. Baby the elder brother of Fr. Puthanangady. A video on his funeral was released on the day and given to the family members of Fr. Puthanangady.
