Trinity College London recognizes Don Bosco Academy of Music, Vennala

Don Bosco Academy of Music and Fine Arts, Vennala, Cochin, of the Salesian Province of Bangalore, has been recognized as an official visiting centre of Trinity College, London, for Grade Examinations.
There are 120 students doing their grade oriented music studies in Piano, Keyboard, Violin, Guitar, Drums and Western Vocal in the Academy. The 60 boarding children of Don Bosco Cultural Centre, Vennala, are also officially part of the Music Academy. It is a golden opportunity for the students of the Cultural Centre to do an internationally certified music course. The Academy had 26 students for the grade examinations on 17 November 2014. Mr Raymond Bidwell from London was the official examiner. Besides MA [Ed] and BA [Hons] Mus, he has several other degrees to his credit. A music examiner, Bidwell has travelled extensively within the UK and the Republic of Ireland and other countries such as Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Borneo and China. He was given a warm welcome at the Academy. He was extremely pleased with the setting at the Don Bosco Academy and highly appreciative of the same. Out of the 26 students who appeared for the examinations, 2 brought special credit to the Academy by completing 8th Grade in just 3 years, which is indeed a record. Gittu Joy, an alumnus of Don Bosco Cultural Centre, completed 8th grade in Violin and Gichu Joy, Class 10 student of Don Bosco Cultural Centre, completed 8th grade in Piano. Sam Robin secured distinction according to the Trinity Grading for Piano Grade 2, with 87/100. 10 students passed with 1st class/Merit, getting between 75% and 85% marks. 13 students secured between 60% and 75% while one obtained 55% marks for Piano. Don Bosco Music Academy is gaining name and fame for its qualitative training in music and fine arts. Periodic public performance in music and fine arts is being staged at the centre. From June 2014 there have already been 8 such shows. Professional artistes and musicians deem it a privilege not only to be associated with the centre but also to perform at the centre. The dream of its founder, late Fr. Philip Thayil SDB, is by God`s grace, being realized day by day. The Music Academy is directed by Fr. Yashin Anamthuruthil SDB, a rank holder in music from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
