Mechanical Engineer Nicholas Besra ordained Salesian priest
Bishop Julius Marandi of Purnea ordained Deacon Nanku Nicholas Besra as priest at St Michael’s Church Kathihar on January 21, 2023. Provincial Fr Joseph Pauria of Kolkata Province and several of his Salesian mentors were among some 60 priests who blessed him at his ordination. Over 2,000 faithful witnessed the ordination ceremony.
A former student of Mary Immaculate School Kathihar, Bihar, 33 year old Besra is a Mechanical Engineer graduated from Bcare Institute of Management and Technology, Murshidabad, West Bengal. Alumnus of Salesian College Sonada, 2014 batch, Besra did his Theological studies from Sacred Heart Theological College Shillong. His diaconate ministry was held at Don Bosco Ooodlabari in North Bengal and Don Bosco Boropahari, West Bengal.
Present at the event were his father Mr. Thallu Karlus Besra and mother Thalamayu Martha Besra along with brothers Babulal, Mannu and Marcus; and sisters Mariam and Martha. The solemn and impressive ordination ceremony held in both Hindi and Santhali languages lasted over 3 hours and was followed by felicitation and cultural programs.
Special guests at the event were Mayor of Kathihar and other local government officials.
