The Don Bosco Community at Vaduthala organised the visit of Don Bosco with great love and planning. An estimated number nearing one hundred thousand seems to have visited the campus when Don Bosco was present. This suprising number was very well managed and all facilities provided with care.
Don Bosco was given a grand reception at Don Bosco, Vaduthala on 4 October. Fr. Joffie Puthuva, director of DB Youth Centre, received the relic at St. Michael`s Church, Kakkanad, on behalf of Don Bosco, Vaduthala. The city traffic proudly gave the right of way to Don Bosco with no hesitation ever. The casket was taken out in procession in an open vehicle. Teachers, Students, members of youth centre, members of pious associations and scores of neighbours marched ahead of the relic to Don Bosco, Vaduthala, the first Salesian house in Kerala. Fr. Devassy Chirackel (Rector) presided over the prayer service and Fr. K.O. Thomas (Vice-Provincial) briefed the congregation on the pilgrimage and its clarion call. Throughout the day various groups on the campus took turns to lead prayers around the casket. A melodious choir created a prayerful ambience. The academic community had Eucharist celebration at 02.00 p.m. The Salesian confreres, members of the youth centre, Salesian co-operators renewed their vows / promise. Most Rev Dr Francis Kallarackal (Archbishop of Verapoly) too prayed at the relic. The concelebrated Holy Eucharist at 06.30 p.m. was presided over by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Verapoly. Devotees flowed late into the night. It is estimated that over seventy to eighty thousand people prayed at the relic. In the early morning the relic was rolled to the Salesian residence for a brief visit and returned to the church for the concluding Eucharist presided over by Msgr. Sebastian Louis, former vicar general of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.
