Sumedha Centre for Psychospiritual Wellbeing focuses on renewal of body, mind and spirit through insights and practices from psychology, spiritual traditions and social sciences.
In Sanskrit, Sumedha refers to a healthy brain that controls entire body-mind systems, as well as to rejuvenation of body and mind. In mythology, Sumedha is one of the horses that drive Surya’s chariot and the one mainly responsible for guiding the destiny of an individual.
The Centre’s uniqueness lies in this integration achieved through its various programmes facilitated by experts in these various fields as well as the specific environment created to facilitate this integration.
The Centre was originally located on the premises of the Don Bosco Specialized Graining Centre in New Delhi (2003-2008). It was later re-located to Jeolikote, near the tourist town of Nainital in Uttarakhand (2008-2021).
The Centre is currently located on the campus of the Don Bosco Sr. Sec. School in a 16-acre plot surrounded by open fields and lush greenery, at Jharmari, Punjab, off NH 152 Ambala-Chandigarh Expressway. It is easily accessible by road, rail and air.
Dr. Jose Parappully, the Founder Director of the Sumedha Centre is member of the world-wide Don Bosco Society and a Clinical Psychologist. He holds a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counselling from Loyola University, Chicago and a Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, He is currently President of the Salesian Psychological Association of South Asia and was Founder-Secretary of the same for nine years (1998-2007). He was the Founder-President of the Conference of Catholic Psychologists of India (2008-2010).
