The Salesian community at Don Bosco Mission, Pavunjur is canonically attached to the community of Thirukazhukundram and takes care of the pastoral needs of the people through the Holy Family parish of Pavunjur with all its substations. It is also engaged in educational services to the poor children of the locality through the St. Joseph High School and the two R.C. Primary schools in Pavunjur and Nelvoypalam. The schools had originally begun in 1948 but have been entrusted to the care of the Salesians from the year 2003.
Besides the schools and the parish activity, the Salesian community has been reaching out to the poor and deserving students from the neighbourhood through the evening study centres in various places. This parish mission was formally offered to the Salesian Province of Chennai by the Diocese of Chenglepet on a contract for 30 years in 2009. The mission since then has seen a lot of developmental activities including construction of new building for the High School, a big auditorium to host assemblies, a boarding home for students, Church & school building in Nelvoypalayam substation areas etc., besides a host of other developmental works.
