Democracy in Darjeeling is the outocme of twenty years of engagement with the civil society and in the higher education settings by the author. 

The work is a reflection by one who came to occupy a region and a location and a role in public life about what the experience has been of being welcomed, engaged with and being able to contribute to some measure towards the growth of a place and a people. 

It summarises and brings together the academic engagements at various conferences over the past two decades, delving into issues of public life - community formation, access to resources and the attempts to understand the uniqueness of a people.
