Salesian Province of Tiruchy celebrates Provincial Chapter (INTPC09)
The Salesian Province of Tiruchy is celebrating its 9th Provincial Chapter in its Silver Jubilee Year (1999-2024). The Provincial Chapter, INTPC09, is being held from April 2 to 6 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Chennai. It has brought together 69 Salesians, five Salesian Family members, and three theology students for a five-day event focused on reflection, discussion, and deliberation.
The central theme of the Chapter is "Passionate about Jesus Christ, Dedicated to Young People" - Living the Salesian vocation faithfully and prophetically. This theme will guide discussions on various topics including care for the well-being of Salesians, collaboration with laypeople in youth ministry, updating governance structures, integrating ecological responsibility into the work, and supporting the faith formation of young people.
The inaugural Mass by Most Rev. George Antonysamy, the Archbishop of Madras – Mylapore, was celebrated at the Crypt Chapel - the Tomb of St. Thomas at Santhome Cathedral, Chennai. In his homily, he stressed the salient aspects of the Salesian mission: Friendly accompaniment, participatory governance, and fervent evangelization.
During the inaugural function, various representatives from the Salesian Family addressed the gathering: Fr. Don Bosco SDB, Provincial of Chennai, Sr. Josephine Selvi SMA, Superior General, Sr. Rosy FMA, Salesian Family Delegate, Ms. Sheela, Volunteer of Don Bosco, Mr. Jothi Pragasam, Salesian Co-operator.
Fr. Robert Simon, the Moderator of the Chapter, encouraged the members to participate actively, effectively, and make the Chapter a celebration. Fr. Agilan Sarprasadam, the Provincial of INT, declared the chapter open. The Chapter will conclude with the creation of an action plan to guide the future direction of the Province.
