CUL-EX 2023 in Bangalore: Celebrating South Indian Youth Cultural Exchange

In a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity and unity, the Don Bosco Youth Services of the Province of Bangalore (INK) organized the CUL-EX 2023 event at the Don Bosco Provincial House in Bangalore on November 25 and 26. The event was masterminded under the guidance of Father Uday Kumar, the Regional Youth Director of Karnataka, along with the assistance of Father Kaplikunnel Varghese, the Youth Ministry Delegate of the Bangalore Province, and Father Manu, the Regional Youth Director of Kerala.

The event, themed 'Bridging Borders: Celebrating Diversity, Cultivating Unity,' brought together approximately 150 youths accompanied by their mentors from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. The two-day affair aimed to foster cultural understanding, appreciation, and mutual respect among the participants.

Commencing on the first day at the Don Bosco Church in Lingarajpuram, the event began with a traditional welcome by the Tumkur Youth through a captivating traditional band performance. Father Shalbin, the Vice Provincial of the Bangalore Province, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Inaugurating the programme, he delivered an inspiring message encouraging the youth to actively engage in breaking cultural barriers and strive for societal peace and harmony.

Following breakfast, the attendees embarked on a cultural exploration of Bangalore, visiting prominent landmarks including Vidhana Soudha, the Karnataka State Assembly House, Don Bosco College, and Kristhu Jyothi College. A campfire session at Don Bosco College ground preceded dinner at Kristu Jyothi College, concluding the day's activities as the participants returned to the Provincial House.

Day two commenced with a lively fancy-dress competition and a captivating video presentation showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Participants engaged in group sessions sharing insights into each other's cultures. The day culminated with a solemn Holy Eucharist celebrated by Father Jose Koyickal, the Provincial of Bangalore, followed by a vibrant cultural show after lunch. Groups from diverse regions within the four states presented the distinct cultural essence of their localities.

The event witnessed the presence and participation of several esteemed persons including Father Josekutty, the Parish Priest of Lingrajpuram Parish, Father K.O. Varghese, Youth Ministry Delegate, Father Joji, the Youth Director of the Hyderabad Province, Father Rozario, the Youth Director of the Trichy Province, along with several other influential persons and animators.

The CUL-EX 2023 not only brought together youth from diverse backgrounds but also served as a platform for cultural immersion, understanding, and fostering unity among South Indian states—a testament to the enriching power of shared experiences and cultural exchange.
