After the successful launch of the VOICES: Giving Voice to the voiceless in the South Asia Region, the BOSCOM delegates of the South Asia Region of the Salesians of Don Bosco for communication met at the Delhi Don Bosco Headquarters on July 15. The meeting had the august presence of Father Don Bosco Lourdusamy, the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai and the Provincial In-charge of Social Communications in the South Asia region, to listen and encourage the delegates in the fulfilment of their responsibilities.

At the Holy Eucharist, Father Lourdusamy spoke of the art of being clever and yet pure of heart as Salesian communicators. During his address later that morning, he highlighted the need for communion to be expert communicators. Drawing inspiration from the model of the Triune God, he spoke of the role of the delegate to ensure the flow of communication through communion. He also assured the delegates to carry forward their views and suggestions to the SPCSA (Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia) Conference.

Father Robinson Rodrigues, director of NISCORT Media College, New Delhi, addressed the delegates on the topic, ‘Human Creativity Vs. Artificial Intelligence: Is AI Our Partner or Problem’. He gave the gathering an overview of artificial intelligence and the ethical issues that come with it.

Later, the delegates had a fruitful discussion of their portfolios and concerns related to their functioning. The presence of Father Lourdusamy, Father Harris Pakkam, Director of ANS, Rome, Father PD Johnny, the secretary of the SPCSA, and Father Vincent KC, the Secretary of the Regional Councillor for South Asia, gave an impetus to the discussion and the way forward in communication.

Father Biju Michael, the Regional Councillor, addressed the delegates online, extending his heartfelt wishes to everyone. He spoke of the need for the communication sector to highlight the voices of the marginalised. Don Bosco himself saw great value in the field of communication, he added.

In the afternoon, the delegates very briefly shared the initiatives of their respective provinces in the field of communication. Then, Father Amirtharaj Arockiyam, the editor of the Salesian Bulletin, addressed the gathering. With concluding remarks by Father Ernest Rosario, the South Asia Delegate for BOSCOM, and words of appreciation and thanks by Father Pradeep Ekka, and with a feeling of communion, the meeting concluded.
