2nd March 2024 will be a day to remember for the members of BOSCOM (Salesian Media Network of South Asia) as it marked the launching of its new initiative the "Luminata" project. There were over 60 participants present online from across South Asia consisting of Salesian Social Communication delegates of provinces, members of the Provincial Social Communication Commission, FMA and other Salesian family of Media Animators and various Lay members involved in the media ministry.
The Institution for Culture and Rural Development (I-CARD) inaugurated “Zoom In Life,” an audio-video recording studio and media education centre at Baghchung, Jorhat. Mr Jayanta Nath, a musician, songster, composer and film director, inaugurated the Zoom-in-Life 5.1 audio studio and the media house on January 31.
In the evolving communication landscape, the BOSCOM South Asia communication sector organised a three-day conference cum General Body Meeting at the Salesian Provincial House, Bangalore, as a means to an effective integration into digital ministry. The conference, held on November 17-19, had 35 delegates and commission members, and those involved in the ministry delving into the different dimensions of communication ministry.
The Social Communication Commission of the Salesian Province of Bombay (INB) conducted a training programme for trainers on Digital Addiction at Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga, on October 26. Thirty-five participants from 14 institutions of INB were present for the programme.
On October 20, music composers and musicians representing various Provinces of the South Asia region came together for the first time to share ideas and visions for a collaborative musical journey at the Salesian Congregation and the regional level.
The second edition of the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DBGYFF) was held at the Don Bosco Auditorium in Egmore, Chennai, on October 13, in the presence of around 1500 students and youth. The Don Bosco Institute of Communication Arts (DBICA) coordinated the DBGYFF screening in Chennai.
Salesian College (Autonomous) Siliguri joined 11 other venues of Kolkata Salesian Province in holding the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival, 2nd edition, on 13th October 2023.
Everything is now ready for the Grand Finale of the 2023 edition of the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DBGYFF), the global Salesian youth film festival. The spotlights will be officially turned on, on Friday 13 October and for 48 hours, in the hundreds of officially registered Salesian Family venues around the world, the fascinating spectacle of youthful creativity expressed through the means of the “seventh art” and used to give shape to the theme “Love builds peace and solidarity” will be staged.
After the successful launch of the VOICES: Giving Voice to the voiceless in the South Asia Region, the BOSCOM delegates of the South Asia Region of the Salesians of Don Bosco for communication met at the Delhi Don Bosco Headquarters on July 15. The meeting had the august presence of Father Don Bosco Lourdusamy, the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai and the Provincial In-charge of Social Communications in the South Asia region, to listen and encourage the delegates in the fulfilment of their responsibilities.
BOSCOM South Asia conducted a seminar on ‘Indian Digital Media Laws: An Overview of Indian Digital Media Laws and Their Impact’ on September 29, 2022. The session was part of a series of ongoing sessions for the Salesian School of Social Communication (SSSC). Mr Prabhakaran Ramachandran, an eminent attorney and Chairman and Founding Partner of two law firms, Pravda Law Associates for Litigation and Lincoln Global Law Chambers (LGLC), was the resource person for the session.
At an event marking Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav - 75 years of India’s independence - and Literacy Day, Church Art Kolkata honoured three Salesians for outstanding contributions to society along with several other eminent citizens at Indian Council for Cultural Relations Kolkata in Satyajit Ray auditorium on September 8, 2022. The Salesian achievers honoured were Bishop George Palliparambil of Miao diocese of Eastern Arunachal, Fr Sacria Nedumattathil of Don Bosco Human Resource Centre West Midnapore, and Fr. C.M. Paul, director of Radio Salesian Darjeeling.
On Saturday 27th August 2022, Don Bosco Institute of Communication Arts (DBICA) marked the milestone of the silver jubilee of its existence with a grand celebration at St. Bede School Auditorium at Santhome, Chennai, in the presence of the General Councillor for Social Communication Rev. Father Gildasio Mendes, SDB, as the chief guest.
The historical moment in the Salesian Province of Chennai had the presence of the Provincial team, the past directors and prominent media personalities and a vibrant group of youth and adults.
The Provincial delegates of South Asia for Social Communication and Formation met at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati to discuss on the theme, “Towards a Salesian Proposal for formation in Digital world: Educational Ethics and Pastoral Aesthetics”. The joint meet is scheduled from August 2 to 5. The presence of the Councillor for formation Father Ivo Coelho and the Councillor for Social Communication Father Gildasio Mendes and their team members from Rome, together with the provincials in charge of Communication and Formation at the South Asia level, Father K.M. Jose and Father Jose Koyickal did add a greater force and credibility to the meeting.
