Youth Offer Prayer and Plants for Creation at Don Bosco Matunga on World Environment Day

To celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2026, Don Bosco Youth Services Mumbai hosted a special Eucharistic Adoration on the terrace of the Shrine Office at Don Bosco Matunga, uniting young people and the Provincial House Community for a reflection centred on care for creation. Ten youth and Salesian fathers attended. Each participant brought a plant, symbolising environmental commitment as part of the event’s activities.
During adoration, the youth placed their plants before the altar while a hymn was sung, offering prayers and expressing dedication to environmental responsibility through a unified act.
The prayer service drew inspiration from Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’. A reading from paragraph 25 underscored the mounting challenges posed by climate change, especially its effects on the poor and vulnerable. This followed a passage from the Letter to the Romans, which evokes creation's longing for redemption and renewal.
A period of silent adoration and personal reflection invited participants to deepen their connection with God, the Creator, and to contemplate their role in defending the environment. The silence yielded to intercessory prayers for the Church, world leaders, communities suffering from climate change, heightened ecological awareness, and the embrace of sustainable lifestyles.
After the Benediction and recessional hymn, the youth exchanged their plants as symbols of friendship, solidarity, and their shared promise to nurture the earth.
Organisers shared that such initiatives inspire hope and motivate young people to become agents of positive change. The event encouraged concrete action to protect 'our common home' and foster care for the environment within communities.
The World Environment Day observance at Don Bosco Matunga ignited faith and ecological consciousness, inspiring youth to strengthen their commitment to God, one another, and creation.
