Workshop Equips Migrant Tele-Callers with Skills for Workplace Readiness
A two-day capacity-building workshop for migrant tele-callers was held on September 26–27 at Bethany Convent, Alto Santa Cruz, with a focus on enhancing communication, customer service, and workplace readiness skills. The program brought together 15 participants, offering practical training in tele-calling techniques, digital tools, stress management, and professional ethics.
The sessions also addressed broader issues affecting migrant workers. In Charge of the Migrant Ministry, SPCSA, Father Francis Bosco explained the types of migration and highlighted sectors where informal labourers are employed. He, along with Bhakti, guided discussions on documentation, wage theft cases, and procedures for handling grievances at migrant desks.
Professor Kinshuk Sarkar provided insights into the functioning of labour markets, the challenges of surplus labour, and the roles of the labour ministry, commissioners, and courts. He clarified legal procedures and answered questions on the standardization of domestic work, including wages and working hours.
Child rights were the focus of Professor Peter, who emphasized the role of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the Juvenile Justice Act, and measures to address child labour and cybercrime. Advocate Caroline explained how to approach courts, the significance of writ petitions, and the use of letter petitions in human rights cases, stressing the right to legal aid.
The workshop created a strong peer-to-peer learning environment and was lauded for equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge. Organizers recommended periodic follow-up sessions to ensure sustained skill development and professional growth for migrant tele-callers.
