Sri Lanka Salesians Explore AI’s Transformative Role in Mission and Youth Ministry
The Salesian Vice Province of Sri Lanka (LKC) hosted a meaningful three-day formation program titled “Innovate & Educate: Artificial Intelligence in the Salesian Mission,” designed to inspire confreres and remind them of their vital role in shaping the future of youth ministry through digital innovation.
The seminar was led by Fr. Selvakumar SDB, Director of Alaigal Media (INT Province), whose extensive experience in delivering AI workshops to bishops, religious, and educators across India and overseas provided valuable insights that clarified AI's role in ministry and made the discussions highly relevant for participants.
The program was met with enthusiasm as confreres acknowledged that the sessions expanded their understanding of the digital world and emphasized the importance of using AI responsibly, ethically, and creatively, while remaining faithful to the Salesian charism rooted in education, pastoral care, and accompaniment of the young.
Participants also noted AI’s potential to enhance their future mission, particularly in working with youth who increasingly inhabit digital spaces. As educators and pastoral workers, they recognized the importance of integrating technological tools to communicate, engage, and empower young people meaningfully.
The Social Communication Sector expressed its gratitude to Fr. Selvakumar for his dedication and contribution, highlighting his role in guiding the Vice Province to read the signs of the times and to prepare confidently for emerging challenges and opportunities in the digital age.
