Snehalaya Celebrates 25 Years of Love and Service to Vulnerable Children
Snehalaya, the “House of Love” and the Young at Risk (YaR) centre of the Guwahati Province, marked a momentous milestone on Wednesday as it celebrated its Silver Jubilee, commemorating 25 years of unwavering service to marginalized and vulnerable children.
The Thanksgiving celebration took place at the Social Forum Auditorium, Kharghuli, beginning with a solemn Holy Mass attended by YaR delegates from South Asia, priests, sisters, and lay collaborators who have journeyed with the centre through its 25 transformative years.
The Most Rev. John Moolachira, D.D., Archbishop of Guwahati, presided over the Mass and commended the Salesians for their enduring contribution to the city through the five homes operating under the Snehalaya banner.
In his homily, Archbishop Moolachira paid a heartfelt tribute to the Snehalaya community and its leadership, led by Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel, lauding their patient dedication to the cause of children in need. He reflected, “They bear with the children, their contribution of harm and naughtiness, yet they go ahead and take their sides.” His words captured the compassion and perseverance that define Snehalaya’s mission.
Addressing the children present, the Archbishop encouraged them to find strength and inspiration in faith, drawing parallels to the biblical children brought to Jesus for blessings. He urged them to continue seeking God’s guidance and love in their lives.
Looking ahead, Archbishop Moolachira expressed hope that Snehalaya would continue to be a beacon of light for the city’s most vulnerable youth. He called upon the community to “be generous in their services to the poor and the marginalized,” reinforcing the spirit of charity and inclusion that has guided Snehalaya since its founding.
As Snehalaya steps into its next chapter, the Silver Jubilee celebration stood as both a tribute to its legacy and a renewed pledge to continue nurturing, protecting, and empowering the young at risk—keeping alive the true essence of a “House of Love.”
