3 June 2026
News reported by: Francis Xavier

As part of the global celebrations commemorating 150 years of Don Bosco’s Preventive System of Education, a day-long seminar for teachers was held at Don Bosco CBSE School, Trasi, bringing together educators from two Salesian institutions to reflect on and strengthen their commitment to Don Bosco’s educational mission.

The programme was jointly organised for the staff members of Don Bosco CBSE School, Trasi, and Don Bosco School, Mulladka. A total of 48 teachers participated in the seminar, which aimed to deepen their understanding of Don Bosco’s educational philosophy and explore its relevance in contemporary classrooms.

The seminar was inaugurated by Fr. Banzelao Texeira, Vice Provincial of the Panjim-Konkan Province, along with Fr. Maxim D’Souza, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco CBSE School, Trasi. Also present were Fr. Sandesh Fernandes, Vice Rector and Vice Principal of Don Bosco, Trasi, and Fr. Milton Fernandes, Principal of Don Bosco School, Mulladka, whose presence and encouragement added significance to the event.

Fr. Banzelao Texeira served as the resource person and led a series of interactive sessions focusing on the core principles of Don Bosco’s Preventive System. He explained that the educational method developed by St. John Bosco is founded on three pillars—Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness—which continue to guide Salesian education worldwide.

Through practical examples, discussions, reflections, and group activities, Fr. Texeira highlighted the importance of fostering a positive, nurturing school environment where young people feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow. He emphasised that education extends beyond academic achievement and must aim to form students into responsible citizens and compassionate human beings holistically.

The sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their role as educators and mentors, helping them identify ways to apply Don Bosco’s educational principles in today’s rapidly changing educational landscape. Fr. Texeira stressed that the Preventive System remains highly relevant because it prioritises accompaniment, trust, and positive relationships rather than punishment and fear.

Teachers actively engaged in discussions, sharing classroom experiences and exploring practical strategies to integrate Salesian values into their daily interactions with students. The seminar also fostered collaboration and fellowship among educators from both institutions, strengthening their shared commitment to the Salesian mission.

The programme formed part of the worldwide observance of the 150th anniversary of Don Bosco’s Preventive System, a milestone that celebrates the enduring relevance of his educational vision. By focusing on prevention, care, and holistic development, the system continues to shape generations of young people worldwide.

The seminar concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing renewed enthusiasm to carry forward Don Bosco’s educational legacy and to create learning environments marked by reason, faith, and loving kindness. Through initiatives like these, Salesian institutions keep Don Bosco’s vision alive and transformative in education today.
