The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) National Mega Jubilee Celebrations brought together over 3,500 young Catholics from across India at the Divine Retreat Centre, Chalakudy, from October 1 to 5, for a week of prayer, reflection, and celebration of faith. Themed “WITNESS: You also are my witnesses, because you have been with me” (Jn 15:27), the event blended spirituality, culture, and dialogue on living Christian witness in today’s world.

The inaugural day featured a solemn Eucharistic celebration led by Bishop Ignatius D’Souza, followed by vibrant musical and cultural performances. On October 2, the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) Hyderabad led the liturgy, with over 150 youth from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana animating the morning prayer and Mass, presided over by Bishop Christudas. The Telugu youth inspired the congregation with their joyful expressions of faith and community spirit.

Over the five days, the participants engaged in sessions on inner healing, music and media as instruments of witness, and missionary discipleship. Eminent speakers, including Archbishop Anil Couto, Archbishop Raphy, Bishop P. Jayrao, Fr. Mathew Naikaparambil, and Fr. Augustine Vallooran, guided the youth through dynamic and faith-filled sessions.

The conference concluded with a solemn Eucharist on October 5, presided over by Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, who reminded the youth that they are both the present and the future of the Church. He urged them to serve with humility, prayer, and creativity. Shri Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, encouraged the youth to harness digital media for positive social change and to become “beacons of hope and unity.”

Reflecting on the event, Ms. Maria, a youth delegate, shared, “This was not just a celebration but a spiritual homecoming.” The SYM Hyderabad delegation, accompanied by Fr. Y. Joji SDB and coordinated by Fr. Sleeva SDB, concluded the celebration with renewed zeal to live as witnesses of Christ in the modern world.
