Salesian Province Inducts 50 New Teachers into Don Bosco's Educational Mission
News reported by: Clan Zackariyas [INT]
The Academic Commission of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy (INT) conducted a day-long orientation programme for 50 newly recruited teachers serving in Don Bosco schools across the province at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Kallukuzhy, on July 18.
The programme introduced the educators to the Salesian educational mission, deepened their understanding of St John Bosco's Preventive System, and equipped them with learner-centred teaching practices rooted in character formation and holistic education.
Welcoming the participants, Vice Provincial Fr Victor Antonyraj, SDB, highlighted the enduring legacy and relevance of Salesian pedagogy, emphasising its contribution to the formation of young people through education grounded in values and human development.
The orientation was animated by Fr Jeyan Joseph, SDB, who led the core sessions on the heritage of Salesian education. He explained St John Bosco's Preventive System, founded on the three pillars of Reason, Religion and Loving-Kindness, and reminded participants that teaching in a Don Bosco institution is a vocation that calls educators to accompany young people through presence, dialogue, encouragement, trust and compassionate care.
The sessions also addressed the challenges of contemporary education, encouraging teachers to integrate technology with effective pedagogical practices. Participants were urged to adopt learner-centred approaches that foster critical thinking, creativity and collaborative learning while ensuring that education remains firmly anchored in values, character formation and the holistic development of students.
Concluding the programme, Fr Jeyan called on teachers to cultivate an authentic and caring presence in their students' lives. He noted that despite rapid technological and social changes, the supportive presence of a committed teacher remains the most powerful.
