SYM LAF Meet in Goa Calls Young People to Leadership and Active Citizenship
The Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) held its annual Western Region Leaders and Animators Formation (LAF) Meet for the Salesian Provinces of Panjim-Konkan and Mumbai at the Don Bosco Animation Centre (DBAC), Benaulim, Goa, on September 6–7.
A group of 32 young leaders from Gujarat, Nashik, Pune, Ahmednagar, Mumbai, Karnataka, and Goa gathered for the two-day programme, which opened with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by DBAC Rector Fr. Simao Fernandes and preacher Fr. Constantine Fernandes. In his homily, Fr. Constantine invited the youth to reflect on why they fell in love with Don Bosco and the importance of keeping that love alive.
INP SYM Delegate Fr. Ralin D’Souza highlighted the unique style of leadership offered through the Salesian ministry and encouraged the youth to draw strength from the accompaniment of their local Salesian communities. The day also included a creative trek to Trinity Beach, animated spiritual moments led by participants, and music-filled interactions between the provinces.
One of the highlights was an engaging session with Catholic MLA Venzy Viegas of Benaulim, who stressed the need for young people to participate actively in politics and make informed choices that contribute to sustainable change.
Province leaders Griselle and Leander, representing the South Asia region, guided participants in translating the SYM Fest Resolutions into practical action for their local groups, reminding them that the resolutions must be lived with fidelity and consistency.
Fr. Leon, SYM Delegate of the Mumbai Province, deepened the participants’ understanding of SYM spirituality, while the Don Bosco Benaulim community hosted the gathering with warmth and hospitality.
