Job Fair to Combat Unemployment; 199 Employed
In response to rising youth unemployment in Kurnool and its surrounding regions, Don Bosco Dhisha conducted a study to understand the challenges faced by job seekers. Taking decisive action to bridge the gap, Don Bosco Dhisha, in collaboration with the Don Bosco Job Placement Network, organized a job fair at Don Bosco Private ITI, Kurnool, to provide sustainable job opportunities and promote long-term employability. The event brought together 17 companies offering over 750 job vacancies, attracting more than 300 job seekers, with 199 candidates securing employment by the end of the day.
Kurnool, a region with a predominantly agrarian economy, faces significant youth unemployment due to limited industrial growth, skill gaps, and a lack of structured career guidance programs. Many young people migrate to urban centers in search of work, while others remain unemployed due to inadequate technical skills and job market awareness. The Don Bosco Dhisha initiative aims to tackle these challenges by connecting youth with employers, offering skill development programs, and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods.
Fr. Sarath SDB, Director of Bosco Seva Kendra, emphasized the importance of employability training and encouraged job seekers to commit to their first job for at least a year to gain industry experience. Fr. Sanjay SDB, Rector of Don Bosco Private ITI, Kurnool, and Fr. Sudhakar, Director of KDSSS, highlighted Don Bosco's legacy in vocational training and dignified job assistance for youth. To enhance accessibility to job opportunities, Fr. Justin SDB, Director of Dhisha, Hyderabad, introduced the Jobs DBI app, designed to simplify job searches and employer interactions.
Many job seekers expressed gratitude for the initiative, sharing how Don Bosco Dhisha's career guidance and placement assistance positively impacted their job search. "I struggled to find a job for months, but today, I walked away with an offer. The guidance sessions before the fair helped me understand how to present myself," said Anita K., a newly placed candidate. "More than just a job opportunity, this fair gave me the confidence to apply and interview effectively," shared Rahul P., an attendee who secured a position in the manufacturing sector.
Through the dedicated efforts of Mr. Harish, Program Coordinator of Don Bosco Job Placement Network, Mr. Sagar, Placement Coordinator of Dhisha, Rayalaseema, and Ms. Dhanya, Placement Coordinator of Don Bosco Private ITI, and the coordination and support of the Don Bosco Private ITI staff and volunteers, Kurnool, played a crucial role in executing the event seamlessly.
