Hyderabad Province Concludes First Annual Retreat with Call to Renew Discipleship
The first annual retreat of the Salesian Province of Hyderabad concluded on October 4 at the Salesian Provincial House, marking a week of profound spiritual renewal, prayer, and fraternity. The retreat, preached by Fr. Jose Varicaseril SDB from the Shillong Province, centred on the theme “Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark.”
Through his reflections, Fr. Jose guided the confreres into a profound encounter with Christ in the Scriptures, emphasizing that true discipleship means walking closely with Jesus, learning from His relationships, and sharing in His mission of love, service, and sacrifice. Drawing from the Gospel of Mark, he illustrated how authentic discipleship involves listening with humility, serving with compassion—especially the young and the poor, and living with steadfast hope in God’s promise of eternal life.
The retreat offered a rhythm of daily meditations, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Eucharistic celebrations, and periods of silence, fostering a contemplative environment for reflection and renewal. Fr. Jose reminded participants that religious life must be anchored in the light of eternity and urged them to renew their consecration with fidelity, joy, and pastoral zeal.
At the conclusion of the retreat, the confreres expressed heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Jose for his inspiring spiritual guidance and to the Provincial House community for their warm hospitality and careful organization. The retreat left participants spiritually strengthened and deeply encouraged to continue their Salesian mission with renewed faith and commitment.
