Fifty-one students from various centres of the Salesian Province of Guwahati (ING) were awarded the Rev. Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel Memorial Scholarships (FSKMS) for the year 2025 during a formal ceremony held at the Provincial House, Guwahati. The scholarships were presented by Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal underscored that the scholarship is meant for students who have demonstrated merit and commitment in their academic pursuits. Emphasising the Salesian understanding of education, he noted that education involves not only the formation of the intellect but also the shaping of the heart. He encouraged the students to become positive contributors to society, reminding them that education should lead to responsible citizenship. “Do not think only of receiving,” he said, “but learn also to contribute to society and remain grateful to those who have helped you.” He also paid tribute to the late Rev. Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel SDB, whose foresight in establishing a corpus fund continues to support deserving students year after year.
Fr. Jayaprakash Anthonimuthu SDB, Economer of the Province, welcomed the gathering and urged the beneficiaries to remember the support they received on this day. He encouraged them to extend similar help to others once they are well placed in life, stressing the importance of gratitude expressed through concrete action.
On behalf of the recipients, Ms Naina Minj expressed heartfelt thanks to the Province for the financial assistance. She noted that the scholarship significantly eases the burden on students and creates opportunities for their future. She assured the gathering that the beneficiaries would honour this support through hard work, dedication, and sincere effort.
The programme began with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, who thanked God for the blessings made visible through generous hearts committed to the education of young people. He prayed for wisdom, perseverance, and responsibility for the beneficiaries, and for the eternal repose of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel SDB, that his noble vision may continue to bear fruit in the lives of many students.
