News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]
In a historic milestone for the scouting movement in Northeast India, the Don Bosco District Association, Guwahati, officially inaugurated the region’s first-ever Sea-Scout Wing at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, on Sunday, February 15. The landmark initiative positions the district at the forefront of expanding scouting's scope and vision in the Northeast.
This is the first time any scouting district in Northeast India has been granted permission to establish a Sea-Scout Wing, a development that has been received with great pride and enthusiasm by scouts, leaders, and invited dignitaries. The programme commenced with the Scout Prayer, setting a solemn tone, followed by a warm welcome address by Vice Principal Fr. Bromio Marak, SDB, who highlighted the significance of the occasion for both the institution and the wider scouting fraternity.
Addressing the gathering, Salesian Vice-Provincial and Guest of Honour Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim, SDB, described the inauguration as a “milestone in the history of scouting in the region.” He underlined that the Sea-Scout Wing would introduce young people to new dimensions of discipline, leadership, maritime skills, and service. Recalling Don Bosco's vision, he noted that scouting plays a vital role in shaping responsible citizens through character formation and a commitment to service.
A defining moment of the ceremony was the Sea Scouts and Guides oath-taking, during which the young scouts renewed their pledges to the movement's ideals. The presentation of the Sea-Scout flag symbolized their formal induction into this pioneering wing. The Sea-Scout Troop Flag was ceremoniously handed over to the Troop Leader by the Chief Guest, marking the official establishment of the unit.
Blessings for the new venture were invoked by Mrs. Arnima Devi, LT (G) and Headquarters Commissioner, who called the occasion a proud chapter in the history of the Don Bosco District Association. She reminded the scouts of their responsibility to carry forward the Sea-Scout movement with dedication and integrity.
Fr. (Dr.) Solomon Dennis, SDB, Hon’ble District Chief Commissioner, expressed gratitude for the rare honour conferred on the district. He described the initiative as both a privilege and a responsibility, urging scouts and leaders to uphold the highest standards of excellence.
Chief Guest Mr. Bolin Deori, APS, Senior Superintendent of Police, lauded the visionary leadership behind the initiative and encouraged the scouts to embrace adventure, discipline, and service to the nation, congratulating all those who worked to make the pioneering effort a reality.
