Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli, a pioneering educational institution in Northeast India, marked its Silver Jubilee on November 22, celebrating 25 years of service, empowerment and hope for young people across the region. The event commemorated DBI’s journey from a formative dream to a transformative force that has shaped countless futures.

The celebration drew a distinguished gathering of judges, government officials, clergy, religious, alumni and supporters of Don Bosco, all united in appreciation of an institution that has consistently uplifted communities through education and skill development. The evening reflected a blend of remembrance, cultural expressions and renewed dedication to DBI’s mission.

The ceremony began with a traditional invocation, Jyoti, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Executive Director Fr. Cletus Sebastian SDB welcomed the guests, while Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Organizing Committee, set the tone for the event with a message of gratitude and reflection.

One of the main highlights was “DBI Roots & Wings – 25 Years,” a segment that traced the institute’s journey, followed by a moving dance drama, Immortal Echoes, performed by DBI students. The programme was graced by eminent personalities, with Hon’ble Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, serving as Chief Guest and delivering the Jubilee Address. Shri Devajit Lon Saikia, Advocate General of Assam and Secretary of the BCCI, attended as the Guest of Honour.

The evening also witnessed the unveiling of key milestones. Shri Saikia inaugurated “AIGNITE” and launched the autobiography of DBI’s Founder-Director, Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB, titled “Building Dreams & Shaping Lives.” Justice Bhuyan released another publication, marking a symbolic celebration of the institute’s intellectual and social contributions.

The cultural segment captivated the audience with a soulful jubilee choir and a musical homage to Assamese legends Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg. Renowned violinist Ms. Sunita Bhuyan and a band led by Devasish Sharma, IAS, delivered stirring performances. The Chief Guest also inaugurated the “Zubeen Hall,” dedicated to the iconic singer.

The Silver Jubilee celebration was more than a moment of nostalgia—it was a powerful reaffirmation of Don Bosco Institute’s enduring vision to continue building dreams and shaping lives in Northeast India for generations to come.
