The Don Bosco community in Lonavla welcomed 71 young students from Classes 7 and 8 for a two-day “Come and See” camp on November 22 and 23, offering participants a rare escape from city life. Amid the winter chill, misty hills and quiet wooded surroundings, many of the boys experienced their first retreat away from crowded neighbourhoods and busy streets.

Organized by the Don Bosco Lonavla community and coordinated by Br Royston Colaco, Vocation Animator of the Salesian Province of St Francis Xavier, Mumbai, the camp drew students from schools and parishes across Matunga, Vasai, Naigaon, Uttan, Pune and Ahilyanagar, as well as Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh and Vadodara in Gujarat. Community volunteers accompanied the teens throughout the weekend.

The programme opened with the session “Come and See — Jesus Calls You by Name”, led by Fr Avil Correa, who reflected on John 1:35–39, encouraging the boys to imagine Jesus calling them personally. The reflective tone continued with “God Has a Plan for You — Discovering My Purpose”, in which Fr. Kiran Salve presented vocation as a call to love, service and meaningful living.

In “Heroes of Faith — Learning from Saint John Bosco”, Fr. Blany Pinto highlighted Don Bosco’s mission, underscoring how holiness grows through small acts of kindness and courage. Later, Br. Royston guided the teens through “Lord, What Do You Want from My Life?”, introducing various vocations in the Church. Aspirants from Don Bosco Lonavla shared their experiences in a moderated session, offering relatable insights into their own journeys.

Ice-breakers, group activities, evening entertainment, rosary prayer, adoration and meditation fostered community and joy. Quizzes and puzzles engaged participants, while Saturday’s lively housie game sparked laughter. “I never knew priests could be so friendly,” said one participant from Virar. Another from Matunga remarked, “This place feels peaceful. I liked learning how God calls us in small ways.”

The camp concluded with a sense of warmth, discovery and hope — echoing Don Bosco’s vision of forming “good Christians and honest citizens.”
