Most Reverend Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura blessed and inaugurated the Orestes Marengo Memorial Chapel at Bosco Mount, Rongkhon Parish, Tura, Meghalaya.

Bishop Andrew R. Marak presided over the Mass and highlighted the life of dedication and the pastoral heart of the Servant of God. "Once when he heard of people's death in a road accident, he was bitterly weeping for the loss of lives. That was the love that the holy Bishop Marengo had for the flock," shared Bishop Andrew during the homily. He also recalled the situation of the cholera epidemic in the mission centre where Bishop Marengo was in charge. He had invited the people to put on the medal of Our Lady and go to the church and pray. Heeding to the words of Bishop Marengo, the people put on the medal of Our Lady and went to pray everyday. All those who followed the instruction were not affected, and slowly the number of deaths and the infected went down and the epidemic was overcome.

Provincial, Father Januarius S. Sangma shared the episode of the Father of young Orestes going and kneeling and praying in the room of Orestes who was asleep, after he had expressed his desire to join the seminary and to be a missionary. Father Provincial thus invited the faithful, the aspirants and everyone present to pray for vocations, to have devotion to the Servant of God Orestes Marengo that he may intercede for us and assist us receive God’s blessings.

Father Benny, Economer, confreres of the Garo Hills region were present to add to the solemnity of the occasion. The aspirants of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians and the parishioners of Rongkhon helped the prayerful participation of the faithful with their angelic singing during the celebrations. Bosco Mount filled the air with their choir during the felicitation that was held at the end of the Holy Mass.  The generosity of the benefactors and the collaboration of Father Amit Lakra, parish priest of Rongkhon and the community of Bosco Mount  with Provincial and Economer helped in the completion of the construction and making this a sign of respect and honour to the Servant of God Bishop Marengo, an exemplary missionary during the centenary year of the arrival of Salesian missionaries to the Northeast.
