Celebration at Savio Juniorate Pays Tribute to Veteran Salesians for Their Lifelong Dedication
The Salesian Shillong Province held a heartfelt felicitation ceremony on Sunday, October 26, at Savio Juniorate, Shillong, to honour its senior religious members who have devoted more than 75 years to serving God and His people.
The honoured members included Fr. Gervasis Kozhupathadam, Fr. John Kalapura, Fr. Isaac Mattappilil, Br. Nello Valeri, Br. Carmel Muscat, Fr. Joseph Puthenpurakal, Fr. Anthony Valluran, Fr. Thomas Manooramparambil, Br. John Colombi, Fr. Paul Kuttala, Fr. Roland Kharkrang, Fr. Anthony Lendakavadil, Fr. Joseph Kavakadan, Fr. D. John Jayakumar, and Fr. Edmund Gomes.
The celebration began with a solemn Holy Mass, followed by words of welcome from Fr. Jeevan Lakra, Vice Provincial of the Shillong Province. The event brought together members of the Salesian family, students, and well-wishers in an atmosphere of joy, gratitude, and reverence.
In his address, Fr. John Zosiama, SDB, Provincial of Shillong, expressed profound appreciation for the senior religious who had journeyed from near and far to be part of the occasion. He thanked them for their unwavering faith, tireless dedication, and exemplary commitment to the Salesian mission—particularly their work for the young and the marginalized.
Fr. Zosiama remarked that honouring these veteran Salesians serves as a living testimony of perseverance and faith, inspiring young people discerning their vocation to religious life. “Their lives are a source of strength and encouragement for the younger generation of Salesians,” he said.
The Provincial personally presented tokens of honour to each of the senior members, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the province and the wider Salesian family.
Following the felicitation, students of Savio Juniorate enlivened the gathering with songs, dances, and musical performances, creating an atmosphere of celebration and thanksgiving. The event concluded with heartfelt applause and prayers of gratitude for the honoured Salesians who continue to embody Don Bosco’s spirit of joy and service.
