6,000 Pilgrims Gather at Mawlai for Annual Sacred Heart Pilgrimage

Nearly 6,000 pilgrims gathered at the Sacred Heart Shrine at Mawlai for the Annual Pilgrimage. Participants came from parishes and oratory centres throughout the Archdiocese of Shillong and neighbouring regions
The pilgrimage, a milestone in the local Church calendar, united many devotees for a day of prayer, worship, and fellowship, reaffirming their devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The day began with Eucharistic Adoration in groups from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m., helping pilgrims prepare spiritually for the Holy Eucharist. At 10:30 a.m., Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of Shillong presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration.
In his homily, the Archbishop urged the faithful to strengthen their connection with Christ, demonstrate His love by fostering unity and understanding in their families, communities, and workplaces, and draw strength from the Sacred Heart of Jesus by living out the Gospel values of compassion, mercy, and service.
The afternoon schedule included Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, offering pilgrims additional time for prayer and contemplation. Mr Kupar Shadap and his team led the adoration service, guiding the congregation in a spirit of reverence and devotion.
Fr. Raphael Maiong, SDB, delivered a spiritual reflection highlighting the Sacred Heart as a profound symbol of God's limitless love, mercy, and compassion. He called on the faithful to exemplify the virtues of the Sacred Heart in everyday life and relationships.
The pilgrimage concluded with a special blessing imparted by Fr. John Zosiama, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Shillong.
The organisers thank the clergy, religious, volunteers, and pilgrims for their committed participation, which made the event a success.
The Sacred Heart Shrine at Mawlai is a renowned centre of devotion in the region, attracting thousands each year who come for spiritual renewal and to deepen their connection to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
