I-CARD, Assam hosts Program for Educated Unemployed Youth

In a stride toward fostering career progression and honing essential soft skills, the Institution for Culture and Rural Development (I-CARD) in Jorhat, Assam, embarked on its annual Training Program for Educated Unemployed Youth. The inauguration took place on September 12 with distinguished guests Fr. K.A Thomas, Director of I-CARD, Dr. Salim Ahmed, Professor of J.B. College, Jorhat, and Mr Uma Pathari (Executive Member) and Mr. Tralukya Pame:gam, the representatives from the Mising Autonomous Council, Government of Assam.

The initiative, generously funded by the Mising Autonomous Council, is targeted at the 11 districts of Upper Assam and spans a comprehensive five-month professional development course designed to empower 30 students per batch. The curriculum encompasses computer proficiency, communicative English skills, and personality development. The programme is administered through the Jeevan Entrepreneurship Training Institute, an integral branch of I-CARD.

The program aims to equip educated unemployed youth with the essential skills necessary for gainful employment, effectively functioning as a finishing school. The training program runs twice a year, admitting 30 students per session. The students commenced their journey on September 11 with an engaging campus tour led by Fr. K.A Thomas himself. The official inauguration ceremony was marked by a warm welcome from Fr. Santosh Mundu, Assistant Director of I-CARD. In his address, Fr. K.A Thomas expressed his confidence that the students would emerge transformed individuals after the intensive five-month course.

The esteemed chief guest, Dr Salim Ahmed, praised Fr. K.A Thomas as a torchbearer of the Don Bosco spirit, commending his unwavering commitment to a life of detachment. Addressing the new students, he emphasized building self-confidence throughout their training journey. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a hearty ethnic meal, setting a promising tone for the upcoming months of skill enhancement and personal growth.
